Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or "DBT" as it is often referred to, is a form of CBT that focuses on teaching 4 specific skill sets: mindfulness skills, emotion regulation skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills, and distress tolerance skills. DBT is proven to be very effective in helping those who experience powerful and distressing emotions learn to navigate and cope with these feelings, rather than in engaging in self-destructive or impulsive behaviors. There is a great deal of research supporting the efficacy of DBT in treating those struggling with things such as self-harm, eating disorders, substance use, relationship difficulties, and impulsive behavior.
  • What is Family-Based Therapy (FBT)?
Family-Based Therapy (FBT) is currently the most promising treatment option for children and adolescents with an eating disorder who are living at home with a family or support system. FBT arms parents and caregivers with the tools and knowledge that they need to effectively help the adolescent reach and maintain a healthy weight and re-learn how to eat in a balanced way.
  • What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or “CBT” as it is often referred to, is an evidenced-based treatment approach that helps clients recognize and understand their patterns of thinking and behavior. Throughout the course of treatment, individuals learn to identify the maladaptive patterns that are contributing to their dissatisfaction and how to change them. The efficacy of CBT for treating conditions such as anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and more is heavily supported by research
