LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR

Welcome!
I provide individual and family therapy to adolescents and adults. While I am trained in and utilize a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches, I wholeheartedly believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of all effective counseling. Therefore, I promise to work alongside you from a holistic, empathetic, and nonjudgemental stance. My ability to truly connect with my clients and build an authentic relationship is my greatest clinical strength. It is also what allows us to work collaboratively to efficiently reach your goals. I integrate honesty, humor and, when appropriate, self-disclosure, giving me an approachability that ensures that your treatment does not feel intimidating or uncomfortable.

I am committed to providing you with a safe and engaging space where I can help you to gain insight into yourself and your behavior, break out of negative cycles, and bring about meaningful change. You are not alone on your journey to improved well-being.

Meet Katie Turco, MS, LPC, NCC

Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Virginia, Colorado and Florida, as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor and member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (IAEDP).

I earned my Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Johns Hopkins University and my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Virginia. Throughout my clinical experience, I have worked with individuals and families of all ages to address difficulties stemming from anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, eating disorders, OCD, and more.
Currently, I work with clients ages 12 and up, with specialized knowledge in treating eating disorders and eating related issues through the use of Emotion Focused Family therapy (EFFT) and Family-Based Therapy (FBT). I simultaneously work alongside a team of local dieticians and medical providers to provide a highly specialized and multidisciplinary approach. I am truly passionate about helping individuals to build healthy relationships with food, exercise, and their bodies, with the hope that this will allow them to truly thrive. I enjoy working with individuals at all stages of this journey, whether you are somebody with a history of a diagnosed eating disorder, a competitive athlete looking for some additional support managing the pressures of your sport, or somebody simply looking to increase your self-confidence and develop a more fulfilling relationship with food and nutrition
I also specialize in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Anxiety Disorders through the use of Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Through these modalities, I strive to help my clients recognize their maladaptive coping mechanisms, understand the function that they serve in their lives , and help them to replace these behaviors with healthier and more adaptive skills.

Lastly, I have years of experience facilitating individual and group therapy for adolescents and adults struggling with issues surrounding, interpersonal relationships, self-harm, family dynamics, and substance use, as well as providing parent coaching in tandem to improve parenting skills and parent-child relationships.
